You can’t push notifications

Twitter has no method where you can push notifications onto your followers. Instead, they need to sign up to your notifications.

If users press the bell with a plus next to the “Following” button they’ll be able to get notified when you tweet.

So how do we get users to turn these on?

  • Give them an incentive — giveaways/contests work well for this because people want to have a chance of entry and notifications alert them to when it starts.
  • Provide high-quality content and ask to turn notifications on. Say something like “if you like this content be sure to turn notifications on so you can get my tips/tricks/hacks before anyone else”
  • Provide content that creates discussion and gives high levels of engagement. If people think by replying to you they’ll be able to get seen and boost their own account they’re much more likely to smash that bell.
